I want to stay at West Brom, says Evans

Jonny Evans says he wants to stay at West Brom despite been linked with a move away from the Hawthorns.

The former Manchester United defender was linked with a switch to Arsenal after impressive performances for the Baggies, and manager Tony Pulis insisted in April that it would be difficult to hold on to the 29-year-old.

But Evans feels his manager was expressing confidence in him and says he wants to stay with Albion.

"Maybe he's trying to get rid of me - has he had enough?," Evans jokingly told Sky Sports News.

"It gives you confidence when the manager appreciates you. It shows his belief that you've done a good job and hope I can continue doing that for West Brom."

Since his move from Manchester United in August 2015, the Northern Ireland international has made 65 appearances for West Brom, but says he would like to play abroad one day.

"I've always been interested by football outside of Britain. It's something I've always kept an eye on," he said.

"When you get asked that question you're not going to say 'no I'll never go there' because you never know. But it's something I've thought 'maybe one day I'll give it a try."
