Promising Ulster second row Cormac Izuchukwu's season is over after he suffered a torn ACL in the Challenge Cup victory over Harlequins earlier this month, the club have announced.
The 21-year-old Academy graduate and Ireland 7s international's absence has been impressive in his senior outings this season and was likely to play a significant role in head coach Dan McFarland's Rainbow Cup and Challenge Cup campaigns.
Izuchukwu, who recently signed a new contract which will keep him at the Kingspan until the summer of 2023, will undergo surgery next week before entering into an extensive spell of rehabilitation.
There was better news on the fitness of skipper Iain Henderson who is close to recovery from a shoulder injury and may feature against Connacht in the Rainbow Cup this Friday (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 7pm), with the club saying his “fitness to play will be monitored during training this week”.
