Leinster head coach Leo Cullen may rest skipper Jonathan Sexton for this Saturday’s PRO14 final clash with Ulster at the Aviva. (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 6.30pm)
The Blues face a crunch Champions Cup quarter-final clash with Saracens on Saturday week and Cullen may opt to rest his star out-half with a view to keeping him fresh for that game.
It’s a replay of last season’s finale which the Aviva Premiership side won 20-10 and Leinster are keen to set the record straight as they look to secure an unprecedented fifth Champions Cup triumph.
If Sexton is rested, Ross Byrne is likely to be named at number ten. A regular for the province over the past few seasons, he featured in the 28-10 win over Ulster in the final round of conference games and replaced Sexton towards the end of the semi-final against Munster.
International second row James Ryan has also returned to full fitness following shoulder surgery and could be set to see action for the first time since March.
It’s a welcome additional selection headache for Cullen with Scott Fardy, Ryan Baird and Devin Toner all vying for starting positions.
In the back-row, Josh van der Flier is pushing for a recall after losing out to Will Connors last weekend.
