Charl Schwartzel carded a four-under-par round of 66 to take a share of the lead at the St Jude Classic at the halfway mark.
Having opened with a five-under 65, the 2011 Masters champion was again in fine form at TPC Southwind and he sits top of the pile alongside Chez Reavie and Sebastian Munoz on -9.
Overnight joint-leader Munoz needed three birdies in seven holes after the turn to ensure he maintained his position after the second round while his fellow joint-leader after Thursday, Matt Every, slipped back into the pack, three shots off-the-pace.
Every is joined in the group on -6 by Ireland's Seamus Power, the Waterford man producing a fine display to add a 65 to his opening day 69, as well as two-time major champion Retief Goosen.
A final hole double bogey meant Phil Mickelson dropped to five shots behind the leaders.
Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell's chances of getting into contention were ruined by a dreadful back nine which saw him mix two birdies with six dropped shots to leave him signing for his second consecutive one-under-par 69.
