Shields victorious on MMA debut

Double Olympic gold medalist and undefeated boxing champion Claressa Shields survived a number of submission attempts early on before stopping her opponent on her MMA debut at PFL 4 in Atlantic City last night.

Shields looked to be in trouble in the opening two rounds of her mixed martial arts debut as opponent Brittney Elkin kept her under constant pressure.

The experienced Elkin looked to take the fight to the mat at every opportunity and Shields went into the third and final round knowing that she had to stop her opponent to win the bout.

"I feel like I am dreaming, this is crazy," Shields said afterwards.

"I tell you, when that third round came, I'm gonna dog her, I went crazy."
