How can subtitled programmes be accessed?

There are two methods of accessing subtitles on the Sky platform depending on your remote control: 

Option 1 on Sky

Press setup on the Sky remote.

1.Scroll to and select Audio & Subtitles.

2.  Scroll to and select Language.

3.  Using the left/right arrows, select English.

4.  Press the green button to save your settings.

Note: This will permanently enable Closed Caption on all channels. To turn this off, follow the same steps above but select Off instead of English.

Option 2 on Sky

1. Press the services button on the Sky remote.

2. In the Accessibility section select Subtitles.

3. Using the left/right arrows, select ON.

4. Scroll to and select Language.

5. Using the left/right arrows, select English.

6. Press the green button to save your settings.

Note: This will permanently enable closed captions on all channels. To turn this off, follow the same steps above but select Off instead of English.

For eir TV on Apple TV

While watching live TV drag down on the trackpad of the Apple TV remote.

Three options are presented at the top of the screen: Info & Control, Subtitles, Audio.

Go to the Subtitles option and then turn on subtitles by selecting the option: English.

Switching to another channel automatically disables subtitles, so it needs to be switched on every time a channel is selected.

For eir Vision

While watching live TV, press the button ''TXT' on the set top box (STB) remote to toggle on/off subtitles.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT ACCESS SERVICES


This document will be used to capture information about subtitling issues on television programmes. It has been designed to try and capture as much information as possible about the problem which should give the broadcaster and platform provider a better chance of resolving the issue.


This is a pilot programme which has been developed by the BAI, broadcasters and platform providers. The programme will be developed over time based on feedback from all stakeholders.


We will require some personal information to allow the broadcaster contact the viewer for further information. In line with GDPR requirements, this information will only be used for this complaint and will be deleted afterwards. 


This document asks you to provide information about yourself, the programme you watched and how you watched it. You can only complain about a programme broadcast on a channel listed in the Access Rules. These channels are:


RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, RTÉ One + One, RTÉjr, RTÉ News Now

Virgin Media One ,Virgin Media Two, Virgin Media Three

TG4

eir sport

Oireachtas TV

Cork Community Television

Dublin Community Television


You cannot complain about programmes on BBC, ITV etc.
